The whole raison d'etre of the BigDoggy word lists is to make the word lover's life a little easier. To that end, we offer instructions for 3 ways for you to have all of the lists in the menu at the right. Best of all, two of the methods are essentially FREE. Before we get to those, however, a few words about the types of lists we're offering. If you've read this before and just need the instuctions, you can just jump to the Printout Options
The lists are broken into two types called "General Lists" and "Bingo Lists" (ooh, so original). The General Lists contain words that are less than 7 letters long. In the case of prefixes and suffixes, the bingos are also included. We did it this way because some beginnings and endings have enough interesting and lesser-known shorter words to make their inclusion worthwhile. These include BE-, RE-, UN-, -IC and the always maddening -INGS.
The Bingo Lists, as the name implies, are words that are 7 or 8 letters long. We chose not to include longer words because they are rare enough in Scrabble® that only the top Experts will have more than passing need for them. The Bingo Lists include most of the common beginnings and endings, the elusive 5-vowel 8's (Joe Edley's favorite list), and a beginning list of Stems. For the Stems, the BigDoggy usually likes creating his own Anamonics, but since he's only just beginning to study them, only a few are listed. Contributions of original Anamonics will gladly be accepted from you, our guests.
Getting Printouts of the Lists
So far we have over 100 pages worth of lists which we're willing to let everybody have for free. All it takes is a good printer and a bit of time. For those who would rather not spend the time, we also offer the option of having the lists bound and mailed. Because we want to encourage Capitalism and the "greedy American" stereotype, those who opt for the bound version will also get an extra bonus.
To have the lists for FREE, there are two options:
1.) If you're using one of the more popular browsers, like Netscape or MSIE, you have the option of printing out any Web Page you visit. Just go to the list you want to print out and click on the icon that looks like a printer. The pages are already set in a fixed font, so your printout should have neat columns of words.
2.) If you don't have a printer handy, or you wish to arrange the lists in a preferred order, you can Cut & Paste the lists into your favorite Word Processing program. The one suggestion we make is that you view and print the lists in a fixed or monospaced font, such as Courier. Using a proportional font will give you a jumbled mass of words that's almost impossible to study.
